HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Heading to McDonald's for a morning cup of coffee is routine for a lot of folks. But what happened at the McDonalds on 1st Street in Huntington this week was anything but routine.
In fact: It turned that cup of Joe into the adventure of a lifetime: when a customer wound up stopping an accused robber.
"I seen a lady jump over the counter and she put her hand in the register and took off running," customer Alison Barry said.
Alison was still outside, so she wasn't sure what was going on.
"At first I was like, well, maybe she dropped her money," Barry said. "And you know, she was reaching over to get it. And I looked back in and I seen the lady behind the register's face and she was pointing like that... So I'm like, oh no!"
Joe Plemich eats here every day, just like Alison. He was inside when it all happened.
"All of the sudden I heard the waitress scream: They took the money out of my register!" Plemich said.
Then, he saw Barry take off after the suspect.
"I thought she was kind of brave to do that," Plemich said.
"She was already, you know, in the grass when I realized, you know, that I needed to start running and I had slip ons so you know they started coming off," Barry said. "So I kicked them off so I was barefooted from here all the way to the street!"
After running barefoot for an entire city block, Alison managed to stop the woman-- right in the middle of the street.
"I just grabbed her by her arms and just held her and just told her to sit down," Barry said. "She didn't like that too much but I told her, I said I don't wanna run no more so you're gonna sit down!"
She held her until police came and arrested the woman. Barry still has trouble making sense of what happened.
"I just walked away," Barry said. "I was ready to sit down and just think, like, wow... I can't believe I just did that."
Joe Plemich, however... says he wasn't too shaken up.
"I've lived so long that stuff like that I just take it in stride," Plemich said.
Both Plemich and Barry agree, what happened Tuesday won't keep them from their favorite place to eat.
"You're not living until you've lived at McDonald's," Plemich said. "Until you've went to McDonald's."
Barry says she'd do it all again.
The suspect in all this is facing a larceny citation from the city of Huntington. She only got away with about 60 bucks-- and Barry says she saw her give it to police after she was arrested.
She was also in possession of a needle and told police she admitted to using heroin.
She'll be in court for that citation next month.
