UPDATE 10/10/13 @ 7:52 a.m.
BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A small fire inside a room under renovation forced guests out of a Barboursville hotel for a short time early Thursday morning.

The fire started in a room on the first floor about 2:30 Thursday morning. Crews on scene say a light fixture overheated and melted the plastic cover. That plastic cover fell to the floor, sparking a small fire.

"I heard there was an alarm in the room and went down to investigate, saw that there was smoke, came back, called the authorities and got them on their way," General Manager Michael Stephenson tells WSAZ.com.

The fire was put out shortly after crews arrived on scene and did not spread to any other rooms.

Guests were allowed back inside their rooms a short time later.
