HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WSAZ) -- With more retail coming to downtown Huntington, some believe it brings with it hope.
It's an upscale women's retail store with a huge following. It's coming to Huntington, and you might say the circumstances that are bringing it here are pretty much black and white.
But, there is great anticipation that it will help generate a lot of green.
“I’m excited,” shopper Haley Maynard said.
Marlene Gruetter, another shopper said, “I think it will be great for Huntington."
There's a buzz in downtown Huntington, and it's all swirling around what's coming to a location at 905 3rd Ave.
“This is the last retail space left on 3rd Avenue,” Dr. Joseph Touma said.
It's called White House Black Market and boasts 300 boutiques nationwide featuring upscale women's clothing and accessories, primarily in shades of black and white.
We talked to the corporate office, and they said -- while the official opening date isn't set yet -- the store will open soon. The company website shows several job openings from store manager to sales associates.
“This is very exciting because it says the national retailers have confidence in Huntington and believe this is a good place to do business,” Touma said.
Touma is the building owner responsible for helping to reel in this big catch. But, he credits the entire downtown.
“Everyone has put in the work and worked hard to make their businesses successful, and that helps all of us,” he said.
“This is very exciting news,” Joe Chapman said.
He owns Reuschlein's Jewelers -- located at the other end of the block. Several years ago, he took a big risk moving his successful, well-established business from its longtime location over to 3rd Avenue across from Pullman Square. But, he says it's the gamble that keeps on giving.
“The traffic is great now. There are so many people walking up and down the sidewalks. It’s reminiscent of the old days,” Chapman said.
White House Black Market is a subsidiary of Chico's -- which is located right across the street in Pullman Square. Shoppers there are familiar with the boutique and excited about what it has to offer the area.
“Huntington needs fashion,” Gruetter said.
White House Black Market will be the first national retail clothing chain store to locate in Huntington's downtown outside of Pullman Square. The first -- its parent company store, Chico's, right across the street -- which no doubt paved the way.
White House Black Market is planning to open its newest location at 905 Third Avenue. The company's website has posted several job openings for the new Huntington location. This includes a full-time store manager, assistant store manager, and part-time sales associates.
The corporate office tells WSAZ.com an official opening date has been set, but says the new store will open soon.
