HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An Ohio man will spend the next three years behind bars on drug charges.

According to a release from U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin, Danny Merriweather, Jr., 25, of Toledo, Ohio, was sentenced Monday to three years and one month in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.

Merriweather pleaded guilty to the charges back in July.

According to the release, Merriweather admitted that he placed a plastic bag containing crack cocaine in his mouth and attempted to swallow it just as law enforcement agents approached his Huntington residence back on July 7, 2011. Officers were visiting the Merriweather’s home as part of a follow-up investigation. That’s when officers found the crack cocaine.

Officers confiscated 13.8 grams of crack cocaine from Merriweather.

Merriweather will serve the prison sentence consecutive to a four-year prison sentence he is currently serving in Ohio for an unrelated drug conviction, according to the release.
