HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ)--A pickup truck went crashing into the side of a church Monday morning causing significant damage.

The sign out front says "Join us on Sunday" but the driver of a small GMC pickup truck accidentally visited the church Monday.

74-year-old Lawrence Clayton tells WSAZ.com that he was on his way back from the store when he came to a red light and must have hit the gas pedal instead of the brake.

The acceleration caused him to swerve off the road and into the side of St Peter's Episcopal Church located in thet 2200 block of Adams Ave in Huntington.

Clayton says it all happened so fast.

I must have hit the gas and took off and shot right over here. That had to of been pretty scary?
I panicked if you know what I mean. If I would have shut the darn key off, you don't have much time I'll tell you," said Clayton

According to Huntington firefighters there was considerable damage to the fellowship hall part of the church. No one was hurt in the accident.
