HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Plans for a more than $130,000 skate park continue to move forward in Huntington.

On Monday night, Huntington City Council members passed the first reading of an ordinance allowing officials to enter into a contract for the development and design of the park. It will be built at Harris Riverfront Park.

Members say this is a positive for the community.

"Teenagers and adults all over the city of Huntington skate boarding and BMX-ing, things like that. So, this is going to help take them off the streets, around the public libraries and things like that -- move them to a centrally located area at Harris Riverfront Park. A place set up just for them, built for them, let’s go have some fun,” Huntington Councilman Scott Caserta said.

As referenced, the project will cost more than $130,000 to complete and will be done in three phases. A time table has not yet been set.
