Push For Year End Donations

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- With the end of 2013 just days away, charity organizations are hoping to get last-minute donations for people in need in the region.

One way groups are hoping to help others is by letting people know exactly where their donations are being used.

Goodwill is one organization hoping to get the word out about the extra need at the end of the year. The Goodwill of Kanwaha Valley is holding a Stuff the Truck event at the Huntington Mall. They're encouraging people to donate clothing and other items to be sold in stores.

Kanwaha Valley Goodwill CEO Alissa Stewart says nothing goes to waste. What can't be sold in stores is sold to other organizations.

The profit from what's sold goes right back into the community.

"It powers people to work," Stewart said. "It helps with our recycling center, our employment and training center. We have industrial and janitorial contracts. We have 10 retail stores. We also operate consumer credit counseling.

Several Goodwill stores in the region will be open late Dec. 31, hoping for last-minute donations. Click on the link for more information.
