CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A dog that was once abused and abandoned headed to a new home Thursday afternoon.

Nova the greyhound was pulled out of the Cabell-Wayne Animal Shelter back in June by volunteers. She had been seized from her owner because of serious neglect.

Nova weighed just 32 pounds, half of what she should have been, and had a fever of 106.6 degrees.

Volunteers helped nurse Nova back to help -- and found her a new home in Massachusetts.

Thursday -- Nova boarded a plane bound for her new family.

Nova's story also received overwhelming support on Facebook.

Supporters raised more than a $1,000, along with toys, treats and homemade gifts.

Even the $1,200 worth of fuel that it cost to fly her to her new home was covered by the pilot of the plane.
