Residents of Wayne County's C-K Area Asked To Consider Consolidation

Updated: Fri 8:51 PM, Feb 10, 2012

WAYNE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Parents in the Ceredo and Kenova area noticed a little something extra this week in their child's backpack.

It was a survey asking parents to consider consolidation.

Here's a look at the letter's contents, obtained by WSAZ.com:

Dear Parent,

Thank you for taking the time to participate in this survey. Your input is greatly valued. The Wayne County Board of Education wants to make you aware of what is happening in Wayne County.

At the present time, Wayne County Schools have been told that we cannot build any more schools without passing a bond. On December 15, 2012, we will hold a bond election in Wayne County.

We were also told we cannot proceed any further in the bond process without making a decision on whether to bring together Ceredo Elementary and Kenova Elementary or just build a Kenova Elementary by itself. We asked if there would be more money down the line to build a new Ceredo Elementary, the answer was definitely not

We have a narrow window of opportunity to take advantage of a situation that will not present itself again. We understand there are strong traditions in the communities of Ceredo and Kenova. We believe these traditions can be a key factor in providing inspiration and enthusiasm about enhancing the educational needs of children. We respect the parents of both communities and want your input.

We have an opportunity to provide both schools with a state-of-the-art facility Please let us know if you are in support of blending Ceredo and Kenova Elementary Schools into one school. We request the survey be returned to school by Feb. 17, 2012.
