SEVERE WEATHER ALERT: Multiple Accidents Reported; Roads Shut Down

MILTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Icy road conditions led to several serious crashes across the area Saturday.

As of 7 p.m. Saturday, I-64 west bound had reopened. It was shut down Saturday afternoon between Milton and Barboursville because of a tractor-trailer accident at mile marker 23. Firefighters on the scene directed cars onto Route 60 as an alternative road to reach their destinations.

In other parts of the region, ice and snow covered roads were to blame for Saturday's accidents.

An accident near Dupont Avenue near Shrewsbury shut down Route 60, according to Kanawha County dispatchers.

There, police said, a car and a coal truck collided around 1 p.m. A pregnant woman was cut out of the car and sent to the hospital. Her injuries were not life-threatening. CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Icy, snow covered roads are being blamed for accidents across the region Saturday.

Kanawha County dispatchers say Route 60 is shut down near Shrewsbury after an accident near Dupont Avenue.

Police say a car and a coal truck collide. A pregnant woman had to be cut out of the car. She was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

They say the accident happened at about 1 p.m.

Dispatchers also tell WSAZ.com that Route 61 has been shut down between East Bank and the Coalburg area after a head on collision.

I-64 west bound in also shut down near the Milton Exit.

Traffic is being diverted at the Barboursville Mall Exit onto Route 60.

Cabell County dispatchers say this is due to weather related accidents.

No word when roads will re-open.
