HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Appalachian Power Officials say in West Virginia, 289,000 of the company's half-million customers are still without electric service as a result of Friday's storms. More than 50 substations are still out of service because of damage to the company's transmission system.

Nearly 700,000 Ohio homes and businesses are still without power, but federal help is on the way after President Barack Obama declared the state was in an emergency.

Federal Emergency Management Agency officials were meeting Sunday morning in Columbus with state officials to determine the biggest needs and where to take water, generators and other aid.

As of Sunday afternoon, AEP had not released outage numbers for Kentucky.

AEP says it has crews out across the region clearing hazards and working to repair outages that affect critical infrastructure, such as hospitals and water and sewage stations. WSAZ.com is getting reports of power being restored in and around the Huntington area.

Another big issue is gas and ice shortages around the area. WSAZ.com has been contacted by numerous people who say they have been unable to find ice anywhere. Several gas stations in the region have already closed after running out of gas.

WSAZ.com will continue to update this list of cooling stations and water issues throughout the day.
