UPDATE 7/26/14 @ 4:30 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Police have released more information surrounding an officer-involved deadly shooting that happened overnight.
Huntington Police say Robert Henderson, 37, was shot and killed by an HPD officer.
It happened at El Ranchito on 3rd Avenue about 1:30 a.m., Saturday.
Police say it was the second call they had received about someone brandishing a gun in the area.
When police entered the restaurant, they say several people were arguing.
Police say Henderson was irate and waving his gun around. They repeatedly asked him to stay still and keep his arms raised.
When Henderson turned toward officers, police say the officer was in danger of being shot, so he fired at Henderson.
There were about 15 people in the restaurant at the time.
Police say Henderson is originally from Michigan and has ties to Detroit. He has a criminal history in Huntington as well as other states.
There's no indication that this is tied to drugs, but they're waiting for toxicology reports to make that determination.
The officer who shot Henderson is on administrative leave, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.
City officials say it happened early Saturday morning at about 12:30, when Cabell County 911 received a call of a man brandishing a weapon. Officers responded to the 2000 block of 3rd Avenue but didn't find any suspects after searching the area.
Then, just before 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a second call of a man brandishing a gun in the same area. A Huntington Police officer and West Virginia State Trooper went inside El Ranchito Mexican Bar and Grill on 3rd Avenue.
Officials say, the officers found several people inside the restaurant arguing. They say a man involved had a gun and it was visible to the officers. Police repeatedly ordered the man not to move, but they say he didn't listen and made movements, forcing the Huntington Police Officer to fire his gun in response.
The man, 37, was shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say more information will be released later today.
