HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- If it seemed as though the ground was shaking in Huntington Sunday morning; it wasn't an earthquake. It was likely just the thousands of feet hitting the pavement in the Marshall University-St. Mary’s Marathon.

More than 2,000 runners from dozens of states and several other countries participated.

For those not quite up to the 26.2 mile run -- there were other races for all fitness levels.

When it comes to good health in the area, organizers say this is many steps in the right direction.

"As you know, Huntington has been billed as one of the unhealthiest populations. so we'd like to think that on November 10th of this year, the city of Huntington will be one of the healthiest cities in West Virginia, if not the United States," organizer Jim Duke said.

Organizers say the marathon is also great for the economy. Hundreds of hotel rooms were reserved and restaurants were full Sunday.

This marks the tenth year for the event.
