NEW INFO: Barboursville Woman, Boone County Family Each Win $1M in Powerball

UPDATE 3/8/13 @ 10:25 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A family from the Boone County community of Julian, W.Va. was introduced as the latest $1 million Powerball winners in the West Virginia Lottery.

“I have been playing the lottery since the beginning,” Doug Gillispie said. “I always play the same numbers and I always buy my tickets at the Mini Mart in Julian.”

Doug, who is a retired coal miner, is splitting the winnings with his children -- Chad Gillispie, Todd Gillispie and Tiffany Price, all of whom live in Julian.

Musgrave says that two match 5 tickets were sold for last Wednesday’s drawing.

Mary and Harold Carr of Barboursville, W.Va., purchased their lucky ticket at the One Stop #3516 at 1413 U.S. Route 60 in Huntington, while the Gillispie family bought their ticket at the Julian Mini Mart in Julian.

Mary Carr claimed her $1 million check earlier on Friday.

This marks the first time that two Powerball tickets worth $1 million each were sold at separate locations for the same drawing in West Virginia.

The Gillispie family win makes a total of 57 persons to win or share a prize of $1 million or more in the West Virginia Lottery’s history (since 1986). Eleven of those winners have been produced in the last 15 months.

UPDATE 3/8/13 @ 11:53 a.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- What would you do if you just won $1 million playing the lottery? That is now the decision facing Mary Carr of Barboursville.

Friday morning, Carr was introduced as the latest West Virginia Lottery $1 million winner at a press conference in Charleston.

“My husband (Harold) and I have played the lottery probably for 30 years,” Mary said. “I was cooking breakfast yesterday morning and he was checking the numbers in the newspaper. He said he thought we won and his hands were just shaking. We still can’t believe it.”

Lottery officials say that two tickets that matched five numbers were sold for last Wednesday’s drawing.

Mary and Harold purchased their lucky ticket at the One Stop at 1413 U.S. Route 60 in Huntington, while the other ticket was sold at the Julian Mini Mart in Boone County. That winner has yet to come forward to claim their prize.

Mary and her husband are both retired and she says they plan to use the money to pay bills.

This marks the first time that two Powerball tickets worth $1 million each were sold at separate locations for the same drawing in West Virginia.
