UPDATE: Two Killed in Wreck on Route 2; Names Released

CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The names of the two people killed in an accident on Route 2 have been released.

Sheriff Tom McComas tells WSAZ.com that Caryl Thompson, 65, of Bidwell, Ohio, and William Cole, of Point Pleasant, W.Va., died in the accident.

The accident happened about 9:30 a.m. Thursday on a bridge near the Cabell-Mason County line.

McComas told WSAZ.com that he believes a a thin layer of black ice on the bridge may have been a factor in the fatal crash.

Thompson was driving and Cole was the passenger in the vehicle.

The name of the driver of the other vehicle who was hurt has not been released.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Route 2 is back open after a double fatal crash Thursday morning.

The crash happened about 9:30 a.m. on a bridge near the Cabell-Mason County line.

Sheriff Tom McComas says two people died when two vehicles crashed on a bridge that had a thin layer of black ice.

Sheriff McComas tells WSAZ.com that the two people who died were in the same vehicle. The person in the other vehicle was injured.

No names have been released at this time.

A third vehicle was involved in the accident, but only received minor damage.

Route 2 reopened about 1 p.m.

CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two people have died in a two-vehicle crash along W.Va. Route 2 near the Cabell County–Mason County line.

Sheriff Tom McComas says the highway in that area will be closed for an extended period of time due to the accident. The crash was reported shortly before 9:30 a.m. The accident happened on a bridge near the county line.

Sheriff McComas tells WSAZ.com that the two people killed were both in one vehicle; a person in the other vehicle was hurt and taken to the hospital.

McComas says early indications are that black ice may have been a factor in the accident The names of those killed and hurt have not been released.

A third vehicle was also involved in the crash, but had only minor damage.
