UPDATE: 6th Street Bridge Reopens after Crash

UPDATE 8/27/12 @ 4 p.m.
CHESAPEAKE, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The 6th Street Bridge connecting Chesapeake, Ohio and Huntington, West Virginia has reopened after a crash Monday afternoon.

The crash happened about 2:30 p.m.

Crews on the scene say say a van ran out of gas on the bridge and was rear-ended by a sedan coming into Huntington. They say the sedan was going around 40 miles per hour.

There were nine people in the van. Three children and an adult male were transported to a local hospital for their injuries.

No other information is being released.

CHESAPEAKE, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Police and fire crews are on the scene of an accident on the 6th Street bridge.

The accident was reported just before 2:30 p.m. on the southbound lane of the bridge. That is the one heading into Huntington from Chesapeake.

Crews on the scene tell WSAZ.com that a van, carrying a family on nine, ran out of gas on the bridge. They were stopped on the bridge when a vehicle rear-ended them.

Emergency responders had to use the Jaws of Life on the van to get a man in the front passenger seat out.

Three children and that man were transported to a local hospital. The man had back and neck injuries.

Crews on the scene tell WSAZ.com the sedan that hit the stopped van was going about 40 miles per hour.

The bridge is shut down until the accident scene can be cleared up.
