UPDATE 7/16/12 @ 11 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Putnam County man and a Huntington man were sentenced Monday to prison on federal drug charges, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Kevin Caleb Barrett, 23, of Red House, W.Va., received four years and three months in prison for illegally distributing prescription drugs.

Barrett previously pleaded guilty in April to aiding and abetting the distribution of oxymorphone, also known as Opana.

On Nov. 18, 2011, law enforcement officers with the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT) utilized a confidential informant to make a controlled purchase of oxymorphone pills from the defendant. Barrett admitted that at the time, he served as the middle-man to complete an illegal pill transaction between the informant and his known associate.

Barrett further admitted that the informant picked him up in Dunbar, W.Va., and drove to a predetermined location in Huntington, W.Va.

The defendant admitted that when they arrived in Huntington, he met with Jacob Hatfield and gave Hatfield $1,250 in exchange for 25 40-milligram oxymorphone pills. Following the illegal transaction, Barrett returned to the vehicle and gave the pills to the informant.

Hatfield, 26, of Huntington, was sentenced Monday to six and a half years in federal prison for his part in the illegal prescription drug activity.
