CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia has received more than $7 million in federal funds for health care and public health preparedness.

The money is part of $971 million awarded this week by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to every state, eight U.S. territories and four of the nation's largest metropolitan areas.

About $2.4 million of West Virginia's share is for the Hospital Preparedness Program, which supports preparedness for health care systems, health care coalitions and health care organizations.

The remaining $5.4 million supports preparedness of state and local public health systems.
