UPDATE: Work Release Escapee Back in Jail

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A work release inmate, with a lengthy criminal history, is back in jail after taking cash from his workplace and escaping.

U.S. Marshals say Greg Scott Gallion, 52, of Ashland, fled the convenience store in the Catlettsburg area where he worked on Friday .

He was last seen in a 1997 black Ford sedan headed towards Ashland on U.S. 23.

At the time of his escape, Gallion was in custody as a work release inmate at Transitions Halfway House.

Gallion's original charge was bank robbery, U.S. Marshals said.

Authorities say in that December 2009, Gallion robbed the Citizens National Bank Branch in Russell, Ky. He was arrested several days later in Cabell County, West Virginia.

Cabell County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Gallion Sunday night. He was booked in the Western Regional Jail early Monday morning.

Deputy U.S. Marshal M.A. Blackburn says Gallion was caught at a Huntington area motel after getting a tip from a citizen who recognized him.

Blackburn says Gallion was convicted on a federal bank robbery charge and was supposed to be released from custody on Wednesday.

BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A work release inmate with a lengthy criminal history is wanted by U.S. Marshals after taking cash from a gas station where he worked.

Greg Scott Gallion left that business in the Catlettsburg area in a 1997 black Ford sedan on Friday. He was last seen headed on U.S. 23 toward Ashland.

Gallion's original charge was bank robbery, U.S. Marshals said. He was in custody as a work release inmate at Transitions Halfway House.

Marshals say Gallion should be considered dangerous.

Anyone with information about Gallion's whereabouts is asked to call his or her local police department or the U.S. Marshals Service at 859-361-5647.

UPDATE 12/15/09 @ 7p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Greg S. Gallion of Ashland was arrested Tuesday afternoon by Huntington Police and the FBI in connection with Saturday's robbery at the Citizens National Bank branch in Russell, Ky.

Gallion was arrested on warrants obtained by Russell Police Detective Philip Kearns for first-degree robbery. Gallion is accused of entering the bank and handing a note to the teller stating that he had a gun and wanted $2,000. About $1,900 actually was taken.

Gallion is being held in the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville, W.Va.

RUSSELL, Ky. (WSAZ) -- The Citizens National Bank in Russell, Kentucky has been robbed.

Dispatchers in Greenup County say it happened just before 11:45 a.m. Saturday.

A detective at the Russell Police Department says a man came into the bank, told the teller he had a gun and demanded money. However, the robber never actually pulled out a weapon.

Police say they are looking for a white male about 6 feet tall with salt and pepper hair and a mustache. Police say the man was wearing a white polo shirt, dark shoes, a dark blue or black jacket with a hood, and khaki pants.

The robber got away with an undetermined amount of cash. No one was hurt.
