UPDATE 12/20/12 @ 4 p.m.
BOYD COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A reward is being offered in connection with the arrest of the people involved in beating and robbing an 88-year-old woman.

According to a release from the Boyd County Sheriff's Office, a $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the two men who robbed and assaulted 88-year-old Kate Thacker.

Thacker was attacked at her home in Catlettsburg, Ky. earlier this week.

The Boyd County Sheriff’s Department say that two men knocked on Thacker's door, and when she opened it, the men punched her to the floor. The woman said one of the men then held her face down on floor, while the other ransacked her home.

Several neighbors came together to offer the reward.

Boyd County Sheriff Terry Keelin tells WSAZ.com that they are working every lead but don't have any suspects at this time.

UPDATE 12/18/12 @ 6 p.m.
BOYD COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Jody Thacker has a difficult time even talking about what happened to her sister-in-law Kate Monday evening.

“They pushed her face down on the floor,” Thacker said. “And one of them sat on her. She was on her stomach, and they sat on her. It broke two or three vertebrae in her back.”

Kate was still in the hospital Tuesday. And the two men who put her there are still on the run.

It happened just before 8 p.m. Monday. It was dark and rainy, and Kate was alone inside her mobile home. The two men walked right up to Kate's front door and knocked. When she answered, they barged right inside.

“And they robbed her,” Thacker said. “She didn't have that much but they robbed her. They ransacked her trailer.”

Her family thinks it's someone who knew Kate.

“Somebody had to know that she lived by herself and was blind,” Thacker said.

The Boyd County Sheriff says he's appalled by the situation.

“It is amazing to me that our society has stooped to the levels that it has,” Sheriff Terry Keelin said.

WSAZ.com asked him what kind of a person could do something like this. He had one word to describe them.

“Anyone that could injure an 88-year-old woman to steal from her ... That is evil,” Keelin said.

He says it's likely the men were after drugs or money to buy them. He also told WSAZ.com it's important for everyone to make sure they don't open their door to anyone they don't know.

He and Jody both want this to serve as a warning for folks.

“Anybody that lives around here that lives alone should be aware that there's dumb stupid people out there that will do anything,” Thacker said.

Thacker has a message for the men who did this:

“I think you two are cowards,” Thacker said. “Anybody who would attack an old, blind, 88-year-old woman -- you're cowards.”

Deputies continue trying to track the men down.
