ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Everyone wants a second chance after making a mistake.
Tuesday, a group of bankers met to discuss a program that offers people with credit problems just that -- a second chance.
The program is called "BankOn Northeast KY," and it's designed to educate and offer banking services to the unbanked and under-banked of eastern Kentucky.
Organizers say that one-third of the population of Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Greenup and Lawrence Counties are either unbanked or under-banked.
Through this program those people will be offered a no cost or low cost checking account according to April Perry, CEO Kentucky Farmers Bank.
“The purpose of the program is educate people on how to manage their money," said Perry. "They should feel good about coming in, opening up an account and then making their money work for them."
25 banking agencies in Kentucky attended Tuesday's session to learn how they can participate in this program.
