Beating Bone Cancer: Community Rallies to Support One of Its Own

BELFRY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A community is coming together to help a teenager in need to ensure she knows she is not alone.

Casey Maynard,16, was diagnosed one year ago with Ewings Sarcoma bone cancer. Doctors have told Casey there is nothing else they can do to help her.

However, Casey's family and friends believe in miracles, which is why they are continuing to fight to help her family any way they can.

On Saturday, March 8, they will gather at the Belfry High School football field in her honor and walk. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Casey, a sophomore at Belfry High School, has missed a great deal of school because of her illness. If she is up to it this weekend, she plans to attend.

All of the proceeds from the event will go toward medical costs and future planning for the teen. In addition, local businesses have donated items to be raffled off.

T-shirts supporting Casey and with the words "Fight Like a Girl" will be available for purchase.

You can find out more by going to the Facebook page "Support Casey's Cause."
