Billboard Bares All, Causes Controversy

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WSAZ) -- It's the topic of conversation and conflict. A billboard along U.S. 23 South has not only got people talking, but rather arguing.

Comedian Freddie Goble, who's known as Munroe at the Mountain Arts Center (MAC), posed for the center's billboard.

The problem is, however, it shows him in only a hat and tennis shoes. The MAC said it was designed as a joke to create attention for the center. But some folks' responses have gotten extreme, even resulting in threats to Munroe himself.

However, center Director Keith Caudill hopes to turn the discussion into something positive.

"Now let's really put that energy to good use," Caudill said. "What are some of the real issues facing eastern Kentucky? Are we the unhappiest people in America? Let's do something about that."

The billboard is set to come down soon, as a result of all the controversy surrounding it.
