CARTER COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – A water main break has left nearly 400 people without water for nearly a week.

Customers were told after this happened Saturday morning they should have service restored Wednesday, but there’s still no running water.

Crews have been working out in the cold on putting in new pipes underneath Tygart Creek in the Iron Hill area near the AA highway.

A spokesman at the Grayson Water Treatment Plant says it's a slow process, but once the fix is made, it'll be permanent.

Some people have resorted to getting water out of a creek.

Customer Richie Wolfe has a child and foster child in school and says living without running water is getting costly.

"I'm having to drive past Grayson just to have everybody get a shower,” he said. “Is the water company going to reimburse my gas? No."

The utility company says water should be restored some time Friday.

Customers affected have been able to pick up free bottles of water and get containers filled at the utilities company in Grayson.

According to a release from Grayson Utilities, customers on the AA Highway from the pump station to the end of the line and all side roads, North St. Highway 7 from Glory Hill Church to the end of the line, KY-2 & 7, KY-1773, KY-784, Leatherwood Road, Tygarts Creek Road and all side roads are now under a boil water advisory.

At this time, between 300 and 400 customers are without water.

According to the release, a contractor is working on a new line across a creek crossing to hopefully restore service by some time Wednesday.

The boil water advisory was issued after a water main break in the Iron Hill area.

When service is restored, customers will be on a boil water advisory until further notice.

Customers who live along U.S. 23 from Zelda to the Kentucky Power Plant, including those along all side roads, are advised to boil their water.

Any water used for drinking, cooking, oral hygiene and watering pets should be brought to a rolling boil for at least three minutes – until further notice from the water company.

When service is restored, customers will be on a boil water advisory until further notice.
