Crews Prep for Early Snowfall
PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – The mountains are getting a head-start on winter in eastern Kentucky, where state and county crews are preparing for the worst.
Workers with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet hit the roads at midnight Monday in anticipation of the severe weather expected in our region following former Hurricane Sandy.
"We could have power lines down, power outages, trees down or trees interfering with utilities,” Information Officer Sara George said. “We're completely ready for whatever might happen."
The Red Cross is prepared to set up shelters in hospitals and school buildings in the area if needed, Kentucky Emergency Management Association East Region Vice President Doug Tackett said.
Tackett says they’re also prepared to distribute generators to people with health needs if there are power outages.
