SALYERSVILLE, Ky. (WSAZ) -- The man charged with killing his stepfather, who was also a Magoffin County Deputy Jailer was in court for his arraignment Wednesday morning.
45-year-old Albert Bloomfield was shot and killed at his home in Salyersville Sunday afternoon.
The Magoffin County Sheriff says 31-year-old Jonathan Watkins did the shooting.
The Sheriff tells WSAZ.com that Bloomfield was shot several times and that his body was found in the living room. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
During the hearing, Watkins pleaded not guilty to murder of a police officer.
His preliminary hearing is set for August 13.
Bloomfield’s funeral is Friday.
Magoffin Sheriff Carson Montgomery says 45-year-old Albert Bloomfield was shot in the chest at his home just outside of Salyersville Sunday afternoon.
Sheriff Montgomery says the suspect is 31-year-old Jonathan Watkins, who is also Bloomfield’s stepson. Watkins was arrested at Bloomfield's house, where he lived off and on.
The Sheriff tells WSAZ.com that Bloomfield was shot several times and that his body was found in the living room. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
Sheriff Montgomery says he and deputies went to house after getting a call about a possible shooting.
Bloomfield had been a Deputy Jailer for the past six years. The Sheriff says his death is a “great loss to the community."
Watkins has been charged with murder of a police officer.
He is being held at the Big Sandy Detention Center awaiting arraignment.
