GRAYSON, Ky (WSAZ)-- A local pastor believes one million pennies in an eastern Kentucky bank might as well have been pennies from heaven.
"It's truly been a blessing," Reverend Jim Varney said. "It's about taking something most people would consider worthless, and making it do something."
For roughly two years, the congregation brought in it's loose change. By the time it came to make a deposit, it was three tons of cold, hard, cash totaling $10,000.00.
"The penny is engraved with `E Pluribus Unum' " Varney said. "It means one out of many. We reached our goal and we're grateful.
Reverend Varney says the money will be used to repair the church's roof, help fund mission work, and the church's youth ministry.
