PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WSAZ) -- After a strange series of events, several people are in jail in connection with a burglary at a Pikeville jewelry store.

Officials say the burglary happened at The Castle Jewelry Store in Pikeville on November 11.

"Several thousands of dollars of gold merchandise, up to $150,000 altogether," said Pikeville Store Manager Cynthia Endicott.

Officials believe a former manager was one of the people involved in the burglary. That person was arrested two days later on an unrelated charge and is currently in the Pike County Detention Center.

"Our safe had been tampered with so we kind of had an idea that it had been like a former employee," said Endicott.

Police say the story took an interesting turn when one of the accused burglars took some of the stolen merchandise into another Castle location in Lexington and tried to sell it to them.

They say that man, 30-year-old Seth Scott, had already sold one piece of the stolen jewelry to that Castle store, but went back to sell more.

"Low and behold Friday evening around 6 these people came back in with three very heavy distinctive gold chains," said Castle Regional Manager Matt Wills.

Employees say they recognized Scott from the first time and called police.

"Highly unusual for an individual to steal from a store and try to sell those stolen items at the same store in a different location," said Lexington Police spokesperson Sherelle Roberts.

In addition to stolen items in the store, police say they found another $18,840.10 in merchandise in his car along with a mini pry bar, wire cutters and a metal file.

Scott faces several charges including receiving stolen property and possession of burglary tools. He is currently in the Fayette County Detention Center.
