ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A man wanted for murder in North Carolina has been caught in Ashland, Ky.
Ashland Police arrested Michael Roop, 55, Tuesday morning outside an apartment building in the 2300 block of Winchester Avenue.
Earlier Tuesday, the Broadway, N.C. Police Department alerted Ashland authorities that Roop could be in the area.
APD detectives then began surveillance at several locations, and at approximately 11:20 a.m. Roop was arrested without incident exiting the apartment building.
Roop is charged with being a fugitive from justice. He is being held in the Boyd County Detention Center without bond.
Roop waived extradition during a hearing in Boyd County Circuit Court Wednesday morning. Police in N.C. have until November 6 to pick him up.
Broadway, N.C. Police Chief Todd Hinnant tells WSAZ.com the case involves the death of 46-year-old Michelle Chevier who was found dead in her home on May 27.
Hinnant says the medical examiner ruled Chevier died of strangulation.
The Chief says the arrest warrant for Roop was issued Monday.
