GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – A Scioto County man has been indicted for allegedly selling a gun to a high school freshman, who was later caught with that gun at Greenup County High School before the school’s homecoming football game.
The incident happened back on October 12.
Greenup County Sheriff Keith Cooper said the 15-year-old raised his shirt and flashed the weapon to a group of football players, who then told their coach.
Sheriff Cooper said the 9-millimeter semi-automatic handgun was fully loaded and that the teen had an extra clip in his pocket and a box of shells in his backpack.
Cooper said the teen told deputies he didn't intend on using the gun, he just wanted to be cool.
The teen also told investigators he bought the gun on the Internet.
Last week, a federal court grand jury in Ashland indicted Fredrick Stiltner of Wheelersburg on one count of selling a firearm to an out-of-state resident.
The indictment says the sale of the gun and ammunition took place on October 4.
Stiltner is scheduled to be arraigned on the charge Thursday morning.
The teen was taken into custody and arraigned in juvenile court following the incident.
Details of his case cannot be released because he is a juvenile.
A published report says the teen no longer attends school in Greenup County.
