UPDATE 5/6/14 @ 11 p.m.
GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – More information has been released on a kidnapping, that has now claimed the life of an 18-year-old man.

The incident began Sunday evening when investigators say a man and a woman were in a car together traveling from Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.

At some point during the drive, the man pulled out a gun and threatened to kill the woman, according to investigators.

Troopers say the pair ended up at the intersection of Kentucky State Route 1 and W. Hollow Road in Greenup County, which is
more than an hour away from Mt. Sterling.

According to investigators, the woman pretended to miss a turn. That's when she slowed down, got out of the car and started running. She then heard two gunshots as she ran away.

Mt. Sterling Police say Jesse Yaeger had shot himself. He died at a local hospital on Monday.

They also say the woman and Yaeger were neighbors and that she would give him a ride to work from time to time.

"She kept her wits about her," says Chief David Charles, Mt. Sterling Police Department. "She was able to form a plan on how to escape and evade him. In doing so, I believe she probably preserved her own life and well-being as well."

Investigators still do not have a motive for the whole incident.

GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A kidnapping investigation is underway in Kentucky. Investigators say a man and a woman were in a car together traveling from Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. At some point during the drive, the man pulled out a gun and threatened to kill the woman.

Troopers say the pair ended up at the intersection of Kentucky State Route 1 and W. Hollow Road in Greenup County, which is more than an hour away from Mt. Sterling.

What happened in the car is still under investigation, but WSAZ.com spoke with people who live near where all this ended. Allegedly, the woman was told she was going to be raped and killed. She was somehow able to get away and ran to nearby houses. Residents say she started banging on doors and windows for attention.

WSAZ.com spoke with the woman who took the girl in and alerted police about the situation.

"She was crying and she said he might have shot himself and killed himself," Shirley Clay said. "She said she heard two shots. She didn't look back, and when she didn't hear anymore shots, that's why she thought he killed himself."

When police arrived they did find the suspect in the car. They say he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was flown to a local hospital. As of Monday morning, he was still alive.

Kentucky State Police are not releasing any further details. They say Mt. Sterling Police are handling the kidnapping investigation.

Sources tell WSAZ.com the victim and suspect knew each other, and may have been neighbors, but that's yet to be confirmed.
