GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- An elderly man facing 1,000 counts of child pornography has been extradited to Kentucky.

71-year-old James Raasch, of Flatwoods, Ky., was booked into the Greenup County Detention Center Wednesday night after Kentucky State Police picked him up in Florida.

Last month Raasch was arrested in Clearwater, Fl. where he had recently been living.

Further investigation led to a nearby storage unit where troopers found what one person called the ”mother load,“ several thousand more pictures of child pornography that included shots of both girls and boys.

Raasch is expected to be arraigned Friday.

UPDATE 10/4/12 @ 6 p.m.
FLATWOODS, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Clearwater, Florida is a place where many seniors like to retire. It is also a place where a Flatwoods, Ky. retiree was arrested Wednesday night on 1,000 counts of possessing child pornography.

Kentucky State Police say James K. Raasch, 71, of Flatwoods, was arrested in Florida Wednesday night.

Earlier, Troopers had gone to his apartment on Clay Street after receiving a complaint about child porn images. This was after a cleaning crew found box upon box filled with thousands of images of child pornography.

Further investigation led to a nearby storage unit where troopers found what one person called the” mother load.“ Several thousand more pictures of child pornography that included shots of both girls and boys.

Investigators say the 1,000 counts of child pornography may just be the tip of the iceberg. They also say this is one of the most disturbing and unique child porn cases they've ever seen.

Troopers say the key is to now find out if the pictures were gleaned from the internet or locally generated -- or both.

"Due to the volume of images and videos there will be an ongoing process to determine where, when and the ID of anyone in those images,” said KSP Trooper Michael Murriell. “If there are any local victims we could possibly provide them with any assistance or help that they may need.”

The manager of the apartment complex allowed us inside the apartment where Raasch lived for 30 years before moving to Florida. Inside the apartment we found a camera handbook left on bedroom floor.

The apartment manager told WSAZ.com that Raasch was the first to move into the complex 30 years ago. She says he lived alone, had no family of friends visit, and always kept his shades drawn.

The manager says the pictures seized looked like they were from the 1980's. And she says the children she saw in those pictures were very young, 4 or 5-years-old.

Trooper Murriell says Raasch may face more charges depending on where the investigation leads.

Investigators are now waiting to see Raasch will waive extradition hearing so troopers can bring him back to Kentucky to face the charges.
