PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WSAZ) -- The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet warned drivers on Friday to stay off Pike County's US 460, which is closed while it's under construction.
"The only vehicles that should be in this work zone are contractors, inspectors, state highway workers, and law enforcement,” said Mary Westfall-Holbrook, Chief District Engineer, Highway District 12. “No one else should be on the road, the shoulders, the adjacent property, or anywhere in the work zone.”
Kentucky State Police say troopers have already ticketed more than 125 drivers during the first 10 days of targeted enforcement.
“We have officers at Marrowbone and US 23, each end of the work zone,” said KSP Lt. Darren Stapleton. “We will stop every vehicle and every vehicle will get a ticket.”
Work on the road is not expected to be done until the fall.
“When the road is open for traffic, we will announce it through the media,” Westfall-Holbrook said. “Until there is an official announcement from this office – Highway District 12 – new US 460 is a closed construction work zone.”
