WSAZ NewsChannel 3 has launched a redesigned mobile app. “This update completely revamps our popular iPhone, Android, iPod and iPad apps.” Said Jack Deakin, WSAZ Digital Sales Manager.
Mobile is a rapidly growing part of the digital landscape according to a Pew Internet & American Life project study out this week. The Pew project reported that two-thirds (66%) of mobile phone owning Americans use their phones to surf the Web and check email. That’s double the amount from 2009 when only 31% of people said they used their phones to go online.
“In our service area that number is even higher.” said Deakin. “WSAZ.com is averaging more than 76% of WSAZ total page views from mobile devices in 2013.”
The new WSAZ app is easy to navigate and has more content than the previous app. On the home screen you find direct links to news stories, the weather, school closings, sports, a live feed of all WSAZ Newscasts, the top news videos, contests and Moms Everyday. In addition to the direct links from the home page there is dropdown navigation that links you directly to even more content that can be found on every screen.
Of particular note is the weather section. You can tell the app what your home zip code is and it will display a wide variety of weather information. Or you can set it to display the weather using your phones GPS. In addition you can set different locations such as a favorite vacation spot, a future travel location or the homes of family and friends and keep track of the weather in all those places with just a swipe of your finger.
The Sports section has Football Friday Night scores and has all the highlight video from the Football Friday segment on NewsChannel 3 Tonight. It also has a link to all professional and college scores as well.
If you do not have an Apple or Android device, and we know there are many of you, WSAZ has completely rebuilt the WSAZ.com website using responsive design.
