PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A man who police say tried to rob a woman at a gas station has been arrested after getting caught shoplifting.

Pikeville Police arrested and charged Jeffrey Holbrook, 28, of Van Lear, with robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property and theft by unlawful taking.

Police say Holbrook tried to rob a woman who was putting gas in her car at a Pikeville gas station about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The woman told officers that Holbrook showed her a gun and demanded money. When she said she didn’t have any cash he took off.

Police say they found Holbrook at Walmart where he was shoplifting. They also recovered the gun that police say was previously been reported stolen.

Holbrook was booked into the Pike County Detention Center.
