UPDATE: Suspect in Ashland Strong-Armed Robbery Sentenced to Prison

CATLETTSBURG, Ky. (WSAZ) -- One of the two people charged with stealing a woman’s purse while she was loading a wheelchair into her car has been sentenced to prison.

Ashland Police said the strong-armed robbery happened last January in the parking lot of the Ashland Children’s Clinic at 700 13th St.

A Boyd County Grand Jury indicted 29-year-old Roger Kittle Jr. and 22-year-old Heather Griffith, both of Ashland, on first-degree robbery charges following their arrests.

Commonwealth Attorney David Justice says that on Friday, Kittle pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Justice says Griffith is also expected to plead guilty to the same charge later this month.

CATLETTSBURG, KY. (WSAZ) -- A man and woman who police say attacked a woman and then stole her purse while she was loading her wheelchair into her car have been indicted by a grand jury.

On Monday, a Boyd County grand jury indicted 29-year-old Roger Kittle, Jr. and 22-year-old Heather Griffith, both of Ashland on 1st degree robbery charges, according to Commonwealth Attorney David Justice.

Ashland Police say the strong armed robbery happened earlier this month in the parking lot of the Ashland Children’s Clinic at 700 13th St.

The pair was arrested the next day following a short foot chase.

Both suspects remain in the Boyd County Detention Center. They are expected to be arraigned later this week. If convicted of the charge they could face 10 to 20 years in prison.

Investigators in Carter County, Ky., also believe the duo is responsible for a robbery and invasion at the Quality Inn Motel in Grayson, Ky., on New Year's Day.

ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Two suspects in an Ashland purse snatching case appeared in court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.

Heather Griffith, 22, and Roger Kittle, Jr, 29, are both from Ashland.
Both suspects remain in the Boyd County Detention Center, in lieu of $50,000 cash bond.

Investigators in Carter County, Ky., also believe the duo is responsible for a robbery and invasion at the local Quality Inn Motel in Grayson, Ky., on New Year's Day.

According to the arrest warrant obtained by WSAZ.com, Griffith and Kittle, both of whom appear to be caught on surveillance video, held the occupants of a motel room "against their will with a firearm and took several items such as laptop computer, cellphone and clothing."

Grayson Police Officer Travis Steele says there's evidence of a third suspect in that crime who's still on the run.

"We're looking for the person in the backseat of that car," Steele said.

The suspected getaway car is a late model Chevrolet Cavalier. It is said to be light tan or champagne in color.

ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- The man and woman arrested in connection with a purse snatching that injured a woman were in court Wednesday.

Tuesday afternoon, Ashland Police arrested Heather Griffith, 22, and Roger Kittle Jr., 29, both of Ashland.

The pair is charged with a strong armed robbery that happened Monday in the parking lot of the Ashland Children’s Clinic at 700 13th St.

The pair was arrested following a short foot chase.

Griffith was charged with first-degree robbery, tampering with physical evidence and second-degree fleeing and evading.

Kittle was charged with first-degree robbery.

Both pleaded not guilty to the charges during the hearing in Boyd County District Court. Bail was set at $50,000 each. They will be back in court on January 18.

Kittle was also wanted out of Carter County, Ky. on an unrelated warrant charging him with robbery.

ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- The man and woman arrested Tuesday in connection with a purse snatching that injured a woman have been identified.

They are Heather Brittany Griffith, 22, and Roger Clayton Owen Kittle Jr., 29, both of Ashland.

Griffith was charged with first-degree robbery, tampering with physical evidence and second-degree fleeing and evading.

Kittle was charged with first-degree robbery. He also had an outstanding arrest warrant from Carter County, Ky. It was served on him stemming from a separate robbery complaint from Jan. 1, 2012, in Carter County.

Griffith and Kittle both were taken to the Boyd County Detention Center.

Both suspects were charged in the strong armed robbery that happened Monday in the parking lot of the Ashland Children’s Clinic at 700 13th St.

Ashland Police say they received many tips on this case based on surveillance video.

ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Ashland Police say they have taken into custody the two people responsible for a strong-armed robbery outside the Ashland Children’s Clinic on Monday.

The man and woman were arrested following a short foot pursuit on 13th Street. Police plan to release their names and the charges against them Tuesday afternoon.

Police tell WSAZ.com the male suspect is also wanted out of Carter County for allegedly robbing a motel.

The incident happened about 4 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the clinic at 700 13th St.

A woman ran up and grabbed the victim’s purse as she attempted to place the wheelchair on her vehicle. The victim and the woman assailant fell to the ground in a struggle over the purse.

A man then pulled on the purse, dragging the victim and taking her purse. Both the man and woman suspects fled the area.

The 64-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A 64-year-old woman was hurt in a strong-armed robbery Monday as she tried to place a handicapped family member’s wheelchair on the back of her vehicle, according to an Ashland Police Department news release.

The woman was taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center for treatment.

The incident happened about 4 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of Ashland Children’s Clinic at 700 13th St.

A woman ran up and grabbed the victim’s purse as she attempted to place the wheelchair on her vehicle. The victim and the woman assailant fell to the ground in a struggle over the purse.

A man then pulled on the purse, dragging the victim and taking her purse. Both the man and woman suspects fled the area.

The woman is described as mid-20s, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs about 150 to 170 pounds. She has light-colored hair pulled back in a ponytail, which appears to go below her shoulders.

The man is described as mid-20s, weighs about 180 to 200 pounds and has light-colored hair and a goatee.
