UPDATE: Power Restored to Customers in Cabell and Lincoln Counties

UPDATE 2/6/12 @ 4:50 p.m.
LINCOLN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Power has been restored to more than 2,000 AEP customers who were in the dark for most of Monday.

The customers without power were in Cabell and Lincoln Counties.

Phil Moye with AEP tells WSAZ.com that the power was restored shortly before 4 p.m. Monday.

Moye says there was an issue in the transmission line that feeds to a sub-station. Moye says a spot was weakened, likely by tree contact and that electricity burned through the line.

Moye tells WSAZ.com the reason it took so long to get the power restored is because these transmission lines run hilltop to hilltop in very rural areas and it took a while to find the cause of the outage.

The power outage caused a number of schools to close down on Monday.

UPDATE 2/6/12 @ 11:15 a.m.
LINCOLN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- More than 2,800 AEP customers in Lincoln and Cabell Counties are still without power.

Phil Moye with AEP tells WSAZ.com the outage is due to an issue with a main transmission line that feeds a sub-station.

As of 11 a.m., 1,744 customers in Lincoln County remain in the dark, while in Cabell County the number is 1093.

As for repairs, Moye says he does not have a timetable right now.

The power outage closed a number of schools Monday.
