PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- More than 50 employees are out of work after an ambulance service ceased emergency runs Friday.

Portsmouth Police dispatchers say they received a call about 8 p.m. Friday from Life Ambulance Service to stop all requests for emergency runs.

Some life employees confirmed they were called in, issued pink slips and told the entire operation was shutting down -- effective immediately.

Life Ambulance Service operates seven ambulances in Portsmouth.

A person who answered the company phone said she had no comment.
