UPDATE: Man Accused of Making Meth Also Charged With Rape

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A man accused of making meth inside an apartment on Cole Street in Middleport is also charged with raping a young female family member that was in the apartment when the meth lab was found.

Joseph Stewart, 39, was arrested and charged with 1st degree felony Rape, felony Illegal Manufacturing of Drugs and felony Illegal Assembly of Chemicals.

Brenda Stewart, 43, was also arrested and is charged with felony Illegal Manufacturing of Drugs and felony Endangering Children.

Both appeared in Meigs County Court Thursday. Their bonds were set at $500,000.

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Middleport Police say residents of an apartment building along Cole St. have been allowed to return home after their building was evacuated Wednesday evening.

Middleport Police and Meigs Sheriff Deputies went to 60 1/2 Cole Street about 8:30 p.m. after getting information about a possible meth lab that was reported to Meigs County Child Protective Services.

Officers say they found meth, chemical to make meth and 4 vessels in an apartment..

Police arrested Joseph and Brenda Stewart of Middleport and charged them with making meth and child endangerment.

The residents were allowed to return home after technicians removed and neutralized the lab and chemicals.

The Meigs County Sheriff's Office, Middleport Police Department, Middleport Volunteer Fire Department and Children's Services were all on scene.

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Two people were arrested Wednesday night in a meth lab bust that evacuated residents of an apartment building along Cole Street in Middleport, deputies say.

They say Children's Services received a tip about a meth lab at a residence.

As mentioned, the apartment building was evacuated. Arrangements were being made to find shelter for displaced residents.

The Meigs County Sheriff's Office, Middleport Police Department, Middleport Volunteer Fire Department and Children's Services remained at the scene late Wednesday night.

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- An apartment building has been evacuated Wednesday night and a street shut down after a major meth bust.

The Sheriff says deputies found a large, active meth lab at an apartment along Coal Street in Middleport.

There is no word on when neighbors will be allowed back into those apartments or how long the street will be shut down.
