UPDATE 2/8/13 @ 12:30 p.m.
LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Charged with first-degree murder; today Rodney Delawder was in court to determine if there is enough evidence to send his case to a grand jury.

Delawder, of Coal Grove, Ohio, is accused of shooting and killing his brother-in-law John A. McKnight.

Aaron Bollinger with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department testified that the night of the shooting a fight broke out between Delawder and his two brother-in-laws over an incident involving Delawder's wife. According to Bollinger, during the interview Delawder told sheriff's deputies that they got what they deserved for what they had done to his wife.

Bollinger said he spoke to witnesses at the scene that night.

"She stated at that point her son John McKnight came in the kitchen, shut the door. She said he put the gun toward the window and shot John McKnight, her son. John fell to the ground and she said her son said he's shot me mom, he's got me," Bollinger testified.

Delawder told deputies that during the fight that the gun just went off and hit the door where McKnight was and this was all just to scare his two brother-in-laws.

The judge ruled there is enough evidence to move forward with the case and send it to a grand jury.

UPDATE 1/29/13 @ 11 p.m.
LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A family dispute turned violent Tuesday night, ending with one man dead, one in the hospital and another in handcuffs.

It happened at a home along Route 243 just outside Coal Grove in Lawrence County, Ohio.

Sheriff Jeff Lawless says the suspect and the shooting victim are related and lived together in the home where the shooting took place.

"You'd hope if people got into an argument with a loved one, that you'd just take a walk or take a drive and relieve yourself of the stress and try to repair the relationship at a later date before it gets into this situation," Lawless said.

Lawless says they got a 911 call a little after 6 Tuesday evening on a domestic dispute at the home. Then a couple minutes later they got a second call that there'd been a shooting at the home.

Deputies arrived and talked with relatives in the house who witnessed what happened.

Lawless says an argument between the suspect and the victims continued to escalate until the suspect got a gun and shot one of the victims in the upper torso. He also attacked and beat the other victim, who was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim who was shot died at the scene. When deputies arrived he was found face-down in the kitchen.

Witnesses told deputies the suspect took off.

Soon after the suspect was found and arrested at his mother's home in Ironton.

“These are tragic situations,” Lawless said. “Victims across the board, even the loved ones of the suspect now, they've possibly lost their loved one for several years depending on how the investigation goes, if he goes off to prison."

The names of the victims and suspect have not been released yet.
