COAL GROVE, Ohio (WSAZ) – Investigators say a man cleaning his gun accidentally shot his girlfriend Wednesday night.
The Lawrence County Sheriff says the accident happened at a home in the 100 block of Depot Street in Coal Grove about 8:30 Wednesday night.
Sheriff Jeff lawless says Lena Owens, 34, was shot in the breast area. She was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital where she was treated and released..
Sheriff Lawless says Owens boyfriend was cleaning his .22 when he accidentally shot her while she was getting something out of the refrigerator.
Owens told investigators there had been no arguments between the pair and that the shooting was an accident.
No arrest was made in the incident.
The woman was taken to the hospital, but her injuries were not considered serious. Her condition was described as good.
The shooting was reported about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Neither drugs nor alcohol was involved in the accident. No one was arrested or faces any charges.
