CHESAPEAKE, Ohio (WSAZ) – Sheriff’s deputies in Lawrence County, Ohio, are combing through surveillance video from inside the City National Bank, which was robbed Friday for the second time in two months. They are hoping to figure out who the robber is.

Sheriff Jeff Lawless tells WSAZ.com the description of the man who robbed the bank just after 10 a.m. Friday is very similar to the man who robbed the bank Sept. 17.

“A medium-sized, slender-built male entered the bank wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a mask, brandishing a small-caliber handgun,” Lawless said. “The description is similar to the bank robbery that just happened a short time ago, so that's certainly a lead we'll be following up on.”

Lawless said the robber walked into the bank, showed the gun and demanded money from the teller. When the teller gave the robber cash, he ran out of the bank and into the woods behind the bank. Lawless said it was not clear how much cash the robber took.

Officers from several different agencies helped search the woods near the bank for a suspect, including K-9 units from the Huntington Police Department, but with no success.

The situation was similar to the robbery in September not just because of the description of the robber. For one woman waiting anxiously outside the bank, knowing her family members were inside the bank during a robbery for a second time was cause for worry.

“Just, ‘Jane, it's happened again. Call my husband,’” Jane Clark said of the phone call she received from her daughter-in-law, a bank worker. “’Let him know I'm OK, but it's happened again.’”

Clark said her daughter-in-law was traumatized by the situation when it happened in September.

“She was scared. Imagine coming back to work, thinking this just happened, what if somebody's watching, what if somebody sees me or something?” Clark said. “And the people that's out there doing this stuff, they don't realize what they're doing, traumatizing people.”

Still, Clark said she is relieved her daughter-in-law and great niece, who both work inside the bank, are physically safe.

“They're both fine. For that I give God the praise,” Clark said.
