SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A woman has been arrested after investigators say she attacked an elderly woman who was leaving the store.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office says the woman had finished shopping at the South Point Walmart just after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies say Kelli Childers, 31, who is from Huntington, but is homeless, ran up behind the elderly woman, hit her and grabbed her purse.

According to a press release, the women struggled over the purse before the elderly woman was knocked to the ground.

The suspect tried to run across the parking lot, but bystanders chased her down and held her until deputies arrived.

Childers was arrested on robbery and assault charges.

She is expected to be in court later this week.

The victim did not require medical attention. Her purse was returned to her.

"The quick actions of bystanders assisted in the capture of the suspect," said Sheriff Jeff Lawless. "Thankfully there are concerned people that rushed to aid another who was in trouble. I thank them for what they did."
