UPDATE: Name Released in Athens County Crash

The Ohio Highway Patrol says the crash happened just after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Rainbow Lake Road.

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A Meigs County man has died in a fiery crash in Athens County, Ohio.

The crash happened about 8:30 Wednesday morning on US 33 in the area of CR 89 also known as Rainbow Lake Road.

The Ohio Highway Patrol says Tommy R. Reuter, 74, of Pomeroy, was turning onto US 33 from CR 89 when his SUV was hit by an oncoming semi.

Both vehicles caught on fire.

Reuter died from his injuries.

The semi driver was not injured.

The road was shut down for several hours.

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- One person is dead after a crash on US 33 in Athens County, Ohio.

The Ohio Highway Patrol says the crash happened just after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Rainbow Lake Road.

Troopers say a semi and a passenger vehicle were involved in the crash.

No word which vehicle the victim was in, or if there are any other injuries.

US 33 is shut down in the area.

Traffic is being diverted onto Old US 33, known as County Road 33.
