Post Office and Attached Apartment Damaged by Smoke and Fire

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Crews are assessing the fire and smoke damage at a post office and apartment building.

An apartment attached to the Kitts Hill Post Office caught fire just before 2:00 p.m.

Firefighters say it started in the back bedroom of the apartment and then started spreading through the rest of the building.

They say a young woman and her 5-year-old son were home when it happened. They smelled the smoke and were able to get out safely. No injuries were reported.

Dozens of firefighters responded within five minutes of when the fire started.

No word yet what caused the fire.
