ORIGINAL STORY 9/28/12
GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A former band director is facing charges after investigators say he sent inappropriate pictures to a student.

John Seals is charged with disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, which is a fifth-degree felony charge.

According to the indictment, the incident happened between December 2011 and January 2012. At the time, he was a band director for Gallia Academy Middle School.

Gallia County Sheriff Deputy Chad Wallace, who investigated the case, tells WSAZ.com that they were made aware that a teacher in the Gallipolis City School System had potentially been involved in inappropriate relations.

Wallace said they found evidence of inappropriate photographs that Seals had sent through text message to a male student, who was under 18.

Seals was taken into custody on September 24, but has since bonded out.

According to court documents, in an arraignment on September 26, Seals pleaded not guilty to the charge.

If convicted, Seals could face a year in prison.

School Officials say Seals is no longer an employee in the school system and that he resigned back in February.
