GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Employees at the Gallipolis Developmental Center have been told 80 positions are being cut. The layoffs were announced Wednesday at GDC, which employs more than 300 part-time and full-time workers.
Employees whose positions are being cut are being offered some support programs, including two-year early retirement, according to a company spokesperson. The company says that will account for more than 50 of the 80 positions being cut.
Officials say the layoffs are due to the downsizing resident population at the developmental center and not budget cuts.
