Hundreds of Oxycodone Pills Found in Traffic Stop

UPDATE 3/7/12 @ 6:30 PM
LUCASVILLE, Ohio (WSAZ) -- In less than 10 weeks, the Ohio Highway Patrol, based in Lucasville, has seized more than $400,000 in cash and illegal drugs.

Sgt. J.R. Howard has been on the job almost two decades and seen the changes.

"I remember having to research what Oxycontin was," says Sgt. Howard. "We've come a long way and not for the better."

The latest traffic stop, netting drugs, happened Wednesday night. Ohio State Highway Patrol pulled over a car for speeding about 10:30 p.m., in Lucasville.

Investigators say the passenger in the car, Kimicia S. Turner, had more than 700 oxycodone pills in her possession. Troopers say the pills have a street value of more than $14,000.

"It's an interesting dynamic," says Lt. K.M. Taulbee. "A trooper stopped that same car, the day before, for a traffic stop. The unusual nature of the stop is there was a lot of cash. But it's not illegal to have cash."

The next day, that same car was coming back through town, and was stopped for speeding. Those drugs were voluntarily forfeited.

Turner, 19, is charged with felony drug possession.

"It's a savvy game of cat and mouse" says Sgt. Howard. "They're going to keep running them and we're going to keep doing our job to catch them. They know what makes it a little more difficult for us and they do what they can to get the drugs through."
