SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A new mining company held a job fair Wednesday at the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce for 50 new jobs.
The company, Orica, is placing a steel manufacturing facility at the Point Industrial Park in South Point.
Before the job fair even began, applicants waited outside the Lawrence County Ohio Chamber of Commerce.
"They were here early this morning," Executive Director of Lawrence Economic Development Corporation Bill Dingus said. "Started at 9, and they were here around 8 -- so just really committed to getting a job and probably would make great employees."
Officials with Orica informed hundreds of applicants about their future job site at The Point Industrial Park, as well as the 50 positions that they are trying to fill.
"The bulk of those are production operators and some of those are maintenance personnel, so we are looking for skilled maintenance personnel," Orica Superintendent Jerry Shapaka said.
Orica will be in a nearly 90,000 square foot building at The Point, where it will be one of 11 companies. It is just one of four companies that have moved in in the past year.
Officials hope the Point will continue to grow because there's no shortage of people in need of a job.
Almost 300 people applied at the fair by the end of the day.
