PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A new hospital is near completion in one community that has ranked near the bottom in its state for comprehensive health care.
King's Daughters Medical Center says it is opening a new hospital in Portsmouth, Ohio early next month.
The new facility includes four operating rooms, two cardiac catheterization labs, endoscopy and cystoscopy suites, 25 pre- and post-operative beds, and a 10-bed inpatient unit, including an ICU suite.
Kim Grooms, a coordinator for King's Daughters Medical Center, said the 10-bed facility will provide patients with local care and reduce the need for traveling outside the area.
"There is a great need," Grooms said. "Scioto County [and] Lawrence County are well underserved as far as health and wellness, and we want to promote that within the community and be able to offer services within."
The hospital will be ready for patients starting February 4. Starting Sunday, January 20, its existing urgent care center will stay open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
